Gordon studied at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow and has been a qualified architect for over thirty-five years. Over the course of his career, he has gained extensive experience in the design and delivery of complex public, residential, and cultural buildings across the UK.
He has held senior roles at several of Scotland’s leading practices and combines professional practice with teaching, having lectured at the College of Building and Printing, the Edinburgh School of Landscape Architecture, and currently part-time at the University of Strathclyde.
Gordon’s built work includes university and college campuses, housing schemes, and major civic projects. He played a central role in the delivery of the Scottish Parliament building, where he led detailing of the East Superstructure package and managed architectural change control during three years as resident architect. The building received both the Doolan and Stirling Prizes in 2005.
His broader portfolio includes projects such as Govanhill Pool, the Olympic Games Substation for London 2012, and bridges, rural homes, and visitor centres in sensitive Highland and island settings.
