North Four, Pennywell, Edinburgh


We worked closely with our client, Urban Union, to design this scheme for 94 Net-Zero Carbon houses for private sale for the fourth and final phase of their significant housing-led regeneration of the Pennywell neighbourhood in north Edinburgh.

We are proposing a series of terraces of between three and six homes. Each block is designed with simple forms associated with the terraced housing typology such as the repetition of mid-terrace units and special conditions at the end terraces. We have also incorporated design tropes such as pitched roofs, tall windows, clearly defined front and back gardens to further reference the shared architectural language of row houses.    

This provides material and detailing consistency with the previous Pennywell redevelopment phases while also referencing the architectural characteristics of housing in the wider area.

Planning approval was granted in December 2022, with an anticipated site start in the first half of 2023.
